Marching into April

As we march into April, here are some pictures of Children's Academy students hard at work this week.  May they add a little sunshine to this rainy day!

Who doesn't love birthday cakes all year round?  Counting candles!
Mat rolling... a wonderful practical life activity.

TRANSITIONAL ROOM

Students enjoyed watching colors swirl while learning that milk and soap just don't mix!

Pink work from the language area combined with the movable alphabet.
Sometimes two sets of knobbed cylinders are more fun (and challenging) than one.

This may seem easy, but this work from the sensorial area is more challenging than it looks.

A sensorial approach to catapult making!

         BIG ROOM

 Reading with a friend

You've heard of hieroglyphics, but have you actually written them? Our students have!

A favorite extension of the Pink Tower and Broad Stair

One of the many extensions possible with knobless cylinders.

Number recognition and quantity comprehension are skills worked on with red and blue number rods.

Color tiles take patience but are well worth the concentration.  Beautiful :)

Math work is never dull around these parts

Enjoy the weekend, Children's Academy family!

Spring is in the Air

Greetings, everyone!  Spring has arrived, and we couldn't be happier.  Hoping the photos below of this week at The Children's Academy fill you with Spring warmth and sunshine. :)

LITTLE ROOM

Splashing with frogs is tons of fun.

Practicing color recognition with a sensorial activity.

What could be more entertaining that painting with shaving cream?!

A story read by a Children's Academy alumni is always a welcomed treat.
Some of the many possibilities when working with The Broad Stair and/or Pink Tower.

Hoping the month of March goes out like a lamb with this project.

TRANSITIONAL ROOM

We're moving into Spring... slowly but surely.

Helping a friend sort and recognize colors.

Dry pouring is a common activity found on Practical Life shelves.

Sorting the items in the nature basket.

Blue and red number rods from the math area.

The images below show a science project about condensation and the rainforest environment.  It appears the orangutan approves of the tropical terrarium.

THE BIG ROOM

These students felt a trip to Italy was in order, so they used this activity from the cultural shelf to help transport them.

Who knew working on a book report could produce such a happy smile?!

Painting flowers in the art area is a great way to start the season.

A structured lesson in the language area.

A smile for math work

Til next week, Children's Academy parents!

Lucky Week

It must have been the children's lucky week, because it was full of snow days, fun and special events.  Below you will find images taken at The Academy the last two weeks, including special moments from our St. Patrick's Day celebration and the St. Jude Trike-a-thon.  Enjoy!

LITTLE ROOM PHOTOS

Working with an activity from the math shelf.

X is for X-ray! An eXciting art project, highlighting the sound of the week.

Practical life activities are always a hit.

TRANSITIONAL ROOM PHOTOS
All smiles about math.

An extension combining the Pink Tower and Broad Stair activities from the sensorial shelf.  The possibilities go on and on!

Listening for matching sounds can be a challenging quest with this sensorial activity.

An older child showing a younger friend how to use an activity.  A lovely Montessori moment.

:)

BIG ROOM PHOTOS

Traveling abroad with an activity from the cultural area.

Fun with fractions.

Knobless cylinders and a partner... a successful combination.

Enjoying the challenge of finding the red stones among a sea of beads.

SPECIAL EVENTS

The children enjoyed riding tricycles in efforts to raise money for St. Jude's Hospital.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY

The students enjoyed all things green on Friday... green bagels, green fruit, even green juice!  A memorable day, indeed.

Until next week, everyone!
