February Fun

This week the students of The Children's Academy enjoyed their work while beginning a new month.  February reminds us of love, friendship, and fun.  Below you will see children enjoying all three!

PRACTICAL LIFE

Serving snack helps promote independence and motor skills while allowing children to practice a daily life skill.  This week, students sampled peppers, comparing both color and taste.

Working with screwdrivers is a useful way to strengthen fine motor skills... and learn to help around the house :)

Lacing is a wonderful fine motor skill strengthening activity.

MATH

Bead work of all kinds is a versatile staple in the math section of the classroom.
Counting hearts is a festive way to reinforce number recognition and the concept of quantity.

LANGUAGE

The movable alphabet is an integral part of the language area, allowing children to not only recognize letters but also how their sounds come together to form words.  Vowels are red, consonants are blue.  This can be combined with pink, blue, and green work too.  Hey, that rhymed!

Cubes such as the ones above and below are used in a variety of ways.  They can be utilized to reinforce letter recognition, vowel/consonant awareness, and create words, all while strengthening fine motor skills.

SENSORIAL
Partners are a great asset when working with Red Rods.

What better way to explore texture than to get messy with shaving cream?!

ART

 Exploring their inner artists!

 They heart art!

SCIENCE/CULTURAL

While not exactly a science, Groundhog Day is certainly a cultural event!  There has been some debate in the groundhog community about whether or not there will be six more weeks of winter, but Academy students enjoyed learning about the special day.

Someone saw their shadow :)

Happy Super Bowl Weekend, Academy Family!  See you next week.
