Til 2017

Welcome to the last Children's Academy blog post of the year!  We all had such a busy week last week preparing for our school holiday show.  Below are a few images taken of your stars in action.  For more photos, please see the link attached in the email sent out by Mr. Plaza.  Thank you for capturing these treasured moments, Mr. Plaza!  The students did such a fantastic job performing on stage for family and friends.  We are so very proud of them and thank everyone who attended.  Much gratitude is also extended to PACA and volunteers for organizing the bake sale and to those who contributed to its success as well as to the success of the raffle.  Our school is very appreciative of all your efforts.

Despite the preparation for their big day, the students still found time to focus on work in their respective classrooms.  Take a look at some of the many activities that were worked with this week.

Working as a team to identify paw prints is a good idea

Working with animals is always a favorite

Seasonal activities bringing cheer and fine motor practice

Knobbed cylinders from the sensorial shelf help reinforce depth, width and sometimes both!

Vertebrate or invertebrate... that is the question.  :)

Sound containers bring letter sounds to life in the language area

Dreidel color sorting, found on the sensorial shelf, helps reinforce knowledge of primary colors

Gift counting in the math area

Christmas tree decorating was a favorite in every classroom this month

Dreidels are fun practical life activities

Menorah candle placement is a great addition to any practical life shelf

Lastly, a very happy birthday was wished to David from the Little Room.  Thank you for celebrating with your friends!

Well, Children's Academy Family, we hope all of you enjoy the two week holiday break.  May your hearts and homes be warmed with the joys of the holiday season.  We will see you in 2017.  Happy New Year!

Less is More

Admittedly, there are not as many photos in this week's Children's Academy blog post.  However, as the saying goes, sometimes less is more.  We have been so busy at work and preparing for next week's Holiday Show, that pictures sometimes take the back burner. But that's okay!  It will keep you in suspense to await the glorious smiles and dazzling to be had at Friday morning's performance.

Many thanks to PACA for organizing the magic show the students enjoyed at the beginning of the week.  As can be seen by the following images, all the students loved the event.  There were magic tricks, songs, puppets, and more!

Below are some of this week's images of students working with materials found in the classrooms of The Children's Academy.

Kwanzaa is on its way!

The Pink Tower and Broad Stair are a great combination.

Math is fun!

These triangles are trickier than they may seem.  :)

Pom Pom Color Sorting

Students working together on the World Map Puzzle

There is much to marvel and behold when admiring the similarities and differences of one unit vs the one thousand cube.

A very Happy Birthday is wished to Sawyer on his 4th birthday!  Thank you for celebrating with your fellow students a la Montessori.

Have a wonderful weekend, Children's Academy Family! Until next week.

Tis the Season

Tis the season, everyone!  Holiday decorations are in full swing at The Children's Academy.  The interior and exterior of the school have been beautifully sprinkled with seasonal adornments.  The children have enjoyed the festiveness and are eager to assist in decorating classroom Christmas trees, which makes for a great fine motor skill activity.

Despite the beginning of a cheerful season & the practicing of songs for our annual holiday show, students were busy at work in their respective classrooms.  Take a peak below at the images taken this week of Children's Academy students.

Working in sand with sand paper letters alongside you is a great way to prepare for writing.

Working on fine motor skills & setting the table!

Book reports are done every Friday in The Big Room!

Not only did this student enjoy working with this geometric shelf, she also took the opportunity to sort shapes in size order before working with them.

Students working together to match quantity with its corresponding number.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!  We will see you Monday for another wonderful week at The Children's Academy!
